1. Acapella Device
- It is a small device with a vibratory feature to mobilize
secretion in the airway.
- Generates airflow vibration from 0 to 30 Hz.
Procedure:
- Initial setting: Frequency should be
adjusted to the low setting
- The patient has to be relaxed while performing diaphragmatic
breathing.
- Instruct the patient to hold breath for 2 to 3 seconds.
- The patient should exhale gently but not too forcefully through the
Acapella.

Flutter Device

It's a mucous clearance device shaped like a pipe with a plastic mouth at one end and plastic protection at the other.
- Indications: atelectasis, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, asthma,
COPD, etc.
- Contraindications: Pneumothorax, heart failure.
- Precautions:
- Patients should be instructed by a qualified physical therapist.
- Avoid repeatedly hitting the steel ball within the Flutter
device to prevent a shocking effect.
- Techniques:
- Instruct the patient to inhale slowly, and hold breath for 2 to 3
seconds.
- Position the Flutter at the proper angle.
- The patient should exhale a little faster through the Flutter.
- Repeat this technique 5 to 10 times until mucous moves further
up the airway.
